Yesterday (23.01) according to the schedule in Remontowa Shibuilding S.A keel was laid for the construction of the first of the six tugboats for Polish Navy. The conceptual and technical design of the units belongs to the NED-Project design office in cooperation with the Remontowa Marine Design & Consulting sp. z o.o..
– This is a tugboat with a different architecture than the one we have completed so far. It’s more fighting. The slope of the walls is adapted to reflect radar rays. The winch on the bow is also completely protected so that the reflections are as small as possible and protected against waves. The tugboat is based on the shape of my original Centaur tug design. The unit measures 29.40 m in length, 10.40 m in width, 4.95 m in height. Its maximum draft is 4.10 m. It can travel at a maximum speed of 20 kn. The tug’s crew can count up to 12 people – said prof. Andrzej Lerch – chief deigner of the NED-Project.
According to plans, the first series tug will go to the 8th Coastal Defense Flotilla in 2019. The next unit is to go to the 3rd Ship Flotilla, and the next to 2020 in several-month sequences alternately to both flotilla.
